Most people buy a pair of curtains and hang one curtain on each side of the window. If you have a large window area, it can easily look thin with a narrow curtain. It will not be proportional with really large windows and very narrow curtains.
Solution : More fabric! Fill in properly, it will immediately be much prettier and have a warmer and more luxurious feeling. You can either buy double width curtains or choose to buy another set of curtains. For large windows, it makes a huge difference when you get extra fabric. The more fabric the better! This is a good guideline when deciding how wide your curtains should be.
Windows are beautiful, show them! Depending on how you hang your curtains, you can both reduce and spoil the impression of your windows.
A curtain rail that is as wide as, or just a few centimeters wider than, the window will mean that the curtains cover quite a lot of the window. This actually makes the window look much smaller than it actually is.
Solution : Hang the curtains wide. The curtain rail should be longer than the width of the window, then you can place the curtains on the side of the window and thus maximize the light let-in. A good rule of thumb is to choose curtains that are twice as wide as the window, then it looks nice even when the curtains are drawn.
Choosing the right width for your curtains is important and can make a huge difference to the room. If you get the wrong curtain width, it can ruin the overall impression of your windows and they can look smaller than they really are.
How wide should the curtains be? We answer that question here as well as give tips on other things to think about so that your curtains create a cozy feeling in your home. At Gardinex, you can order your curtains in the length you want. When it comes to how wide your curtains should be, there are two fixed widths to choose from: single width (150 cm) and double width (300 cm).
But remember that you can hang several curtains next to each other if you have a wider wall.
You also need to consider that when you hang your curtains, they will not be as wide as the measurement for the width. This is because the curtains are pleated to get a nice drape.
Our one fixed curtain width is called single width and it is between 75-100 cm wide when fully extended.
When suspended, the Wave curtain is at least approximately 25 cm and at most 75 cm wide.
The pleated curtain is at least approximately 50 cm and at most 100 cm wide.
Single width is a good width for curtains when there is only a narrow part of the wall you want to cover, for example if it is a small room or an asymmetrical window that is close to the wall on one side.
If you have several windows next to each other, a single width can also be used to hang between the windows without there being too much fabric.
Our other fixed width is double width and it is between 150-200cm wide when fully extended.
When suspended, the Wave curtain is at least approximately 50 cm and at most 150 cm wide.
The pleated curtain is at least approximately 75 cm and at most 200 cm wide.
Double width is a good width for curtains when you want to cover a lot of surface, for example if you want to cover an entire wall up to where the window begins.
Then you may need several curtains of double width that you hang next to each other.
If you have large windows, it is especially important to choose wide curtains, otherwise the curtains can look too minimalistic in comparison.
Choosing the right length of your curtains is important to get the right feeling in the room. Curtains that are too short will look strange, while curtains that are too long and drag too much on the floor will look sloppy, and you risk tripping over them.
The length of your curtains depends on whether you want the curtains to float above the floor or flow out a little on the floor. Here you can read more about what to consider when choosing the measurements of your curtains and read more about how to measure to get the right length in your order!
Curtains from ceiling or wall?
Curtains that are allowed to hang all the way from ceiling to floor give a luxurious hotel feeling and a warmth that spreads in the room. In addition, it will feel like the ceiling height is higher.
Feel free to choose wider curtains that can hang along the entire wall for a more cozy feeling.
How long curtains should be when they are to hang from ceiling to floor depends on the ceiling height of the room and whether you have the opportunity to mount the curtain rail directly on the ceiling. Many people prefer long curtains that hang all the way from the ceiling to the floor because this gives a luxurious hotel feeling.
Sometimes, however, it is not possible to attach a curtain rail to the ceiling.
Our best tip is then to find a natural line as high up on the wall as possible, such as a molding or stucco, and mount the curtain rail there.
If you place the curtains too close to the window, there is a risk that the window will look smaller than it actually is.
Curtains that float just above the floor look classy and sophisticated. The advantage of curtains that float a little above the floor is that the curtains stay clean and fresh longer as they do not come into contact with dust and dirt on the floor. It will also give the room a slightly airier feeling and have a very nice case.

Trailing curtains give extra structure , give the room structure and personality. A softer fabric helps them flow nicely on the floor. The important thing here is that it does not become too much. A small trailer gives the curtain stability and ensures that the waves will lie nicely. Just keep in mind that trailing curtains require a little more maintenance and tend to collect dust.

We at Gardinex offer two types of curtains. Wave blinds and pleated blinds. So, what then is the difference between these two?
The big difference between these two curtains is how it hangs and folds.
also called lounge curtains, is characterized by its billowing waves that become symmetrical and even due to the curtain being hung with pleat hooks at fixed sliding distances under the rail. This is made possible because the slide is attached to a string where the distances are even. The waves can be adjusted so that they become smaller or larger, and with the appropriate textile, the wave movement can be maintained throughout the full length of the drapery. It is also the sewing method that requires the most fabric to create the pleat.
Wave curtains are most often seen in social rooms to create a modern, harmonious and luxurious atmosphere. Not only do they look beautiful when held up, but stack back very neatly when not in use, helping to maximize the light in a room. When it comes to installing wave curtains, it needs a little more space due to its shape and will "stick out" about 10 cm from the wall.
has more of a tight pleat compared to the wave curtain. This curtain is hung with finger hooks instead of shirring tape hooks. These finger hooks lift the curtain so that it hides the track where the curtain hangs, while pleated tape hooks allow the curtain to hang just below the track. The pleated tape curtain does not take up as much space and works great in tight spaces. The tight shape in the upper part contributes to a relaxed looseness in the lower part.
The pleated curtain fits in all types of rooms and works as an excellent choice in, for example, bedrooms where the space is usually tighter than in other rooms. They are also a perfect choice when you want double layers of curtains, for example as a complement behind the blackout curtain to create the luxurious hotel feel. This is because it takes up less space during installation and each rail "sticks out" approx. 5 cm from the wall. Last but not least, the pleated curtain is a classic curtain that gives a timeless atmosphere in all types of rooms and environments.

How should curtains hang?
This is a question with many answers because it is a matter of taste. But there are some things you can think about so that your curtains hang as nicely as possible and make the room look bigger and airier.
Here we give you tips on how curtains should hang to give a cozy and luxurious feeling!
1. Curtains should hang high!
One of the most classic tips when it comes to how curtains should hang is that they should hang high.
By this we mean that the curtains are allowed to hang as close to the ceiling as possible and then fall all the way down to the floor.
If you do not have the opportunity to mount curtain rails directly on the ceiling, you can mount them on the wall but exactly at ceiling height. A good rule of thumb is that the curtain rail should sit at least 20 cm above the top window ledge, but the higher the better as this enlarges the window.
Here at Gardinex we have curtain rails which can be mounted both on the ceiling and on the wall. They are easy to assemble and it is easy to hang yours custom-made curtains .
2. Choose the right length
The length of your curtains is very important. If they are too long, they will drag on the floor and there is a risk that someone will step on them or that they will get dirty. If they are too short, it will look strange and the room will feel smaller.
How should curtains hang when it comes to length then? Here you have two choices.
You can either let the curtains hang so that they float just above the floor. Or you can let them drag on the floor by a few centimetres.
With us, you can buy made-to-measure curtains to get exactly the length you want.
3. The more fabric the better
A lot of fabric is preferable when it comes to curtains. If you have a narrow curtain next to a large window, it will look out of place. A rule of thumb here is to have at least twice as much fabric as the width of the window, but you are welcome to have more. A lot of fabric creates a warm and cozy feeling reminiscent of a luxurious hotel room.
We have two widths of curtains to choose from:
Single width which has a width of 150 cm and double width which has a width of 300 cm. If you have a wider wall, you can of course hang several curtains next to each other to get more fabric.
4. The number of curtains
How the curtains should hang depends on the window and the room. If the window is centered in the middle of the room, you can hang curtains on each side of the window.
Feel free to let the curtains cover the wall and as much of the window as possible be visible to maximize the light entry.
If you have different amounts of wall on each side of the window, a tip is to hang a narrower curtain on the smaller side and a wider curtain on the side where you have a lot of wall.
If the room is small and narrow where there is not much wall, it may be enough to hang a narrow, thin curtain on one side of the window to cover as little of the window as possible. however, keep in mind that the curtain should be as wide as the window so that you can pull it if necessary.
If you have several windows in a row, it can be a bit tricky to know how the curtains should hang. If there is a wall between the windows, it is nice to also hang curtains there.
5. Choose the right style
Regardless of how you hang your curtains, it is important to find a style of curtains that suits the room.
Think about which room they will be hanging in. In the bedroom you might want a pair of darker and thicker curtains, while a pair of lighter and thinner curtains would be better in the kitchen or living room.
