Wash curtains how often? | Gardinex
Wash curtains - How often?
Curtains are an obvious part of both home and office and something that lifts the whole room.
Once the curtains hang in place, you may not think that they actually need to be washed at regular intervals.
Here we go through how to wash curtains and how often you need to wash them to keep them clean and fresh and to have a long lifespan.
How often should you wash curtains?
How often you should wash curtains depends on a number of different factors.
It depends, among other things, on the type of curtain and in which room the curtains are hung, for example, the curtains often get dirtier in the kitchen than in the bedroom. A good guideline when it comes to washing curtains and how often you should do it is about once every six months.
It can be good to wash the curtains in connection with spring cleaning and autumn cleaning.
It is important to remember that textiles do not feel good from being washed too often.
If you do this, the curtains can lose both color and structure, so try not to wash your curtains unnecessarily.
If they are dusty, you can instead choose to shake and air them.
How to wash curtains?
Now that you know how often you should wash curtains, let's go through how to wash the curtains.
The important thing here is to always read the washing instructions and follow the instructions because it depends on the type of curtain.
You can wash most types of curtains either by hand, for example in the bathtub, or in a washing machine at a low temperature to minimize the risk of the curtains shrinking.
Avoid washing curtains together with other textiles and sort beforehand so that you only wash similar colors together.
Here are some general washing tips for different types of curtains:
Tank Top
Linen is a natural material that can be washed at 60 degrees.
If the linen curtains are thinner and loosely woven, you should instead wash the curtains in a delicate wash at 40 degrees or by hand.
Please use a mild detergent without bleach as this can change the color of the curtains, even those that are white. Linen can also be tumble-dried on low heat in a gentle program, but please take them out before they are completely dry and let them air dry last.
Cotton
Cotton is a durable material that can often withstand slightly higher heat. This means you can usually wash cotton curtains at 60 degrees or 40 degrees, depending on how dirty the curtains are. To make the curtains smooth, we recommend drying them hanging or lying flat.
If you want to tumble dry them, you should take them out when they are still a little damp and iron them straight away.
Silk
Silk is a delicate material so avoid washing silk curtains too often and choose instead
airing.
If they need to be washed, it is best to do this by hand and then let them hang to dry.
Velvet
You can wash velvet curtains on a mild washing program with a low degree.
When it comes to velvet curtains, you can instead air them and brush them with a soft brush.
Blackout curtains
Blackout curtains are sensitive to heat so these should be washed in a gentle wash cycle with cold water.
