How wide hem on curtains for a beautiful fall?

How wide a hem should you have on curtains to achieve a beautiful fall?

It is usually said that a hem of approximately 8-10 cm is sufficient to add some weight to the bottom of the curtain. It is of course perfectly possible to also have a smaller hem if you so wish.

Hem a curtain

Once you have decided how wide the hem of the curtains you want, there are several ways you can hem
them on. An easy way to hem curtains is by using hem tape. You place the hem tape on the curtain and then fold the edge over and iron with an iron.

Then the hem tape melts and sticks the hem together. You can also hem a curtain with a sewing machine. Fold up a hem as wide as you want and pin together. Then sew with a regular straight stitch and remove
the needles.

When you order curtains from us at Gardinex, the curtains already have a finished hem.

Fill in the measurement you want for your curtains in the order and we will calculate the hem ourselves. Our curtains have a hem of 8 cm, which gives a perfect weight to the curtain and a stylish fall.

Do you want a hem in a different measurement? Contact us at Gardinex and we can sew up the curtains according to your wishes.

That way you get the right measurements

No matter how wide the hem of your curtains you want, you need to start by measuring the length
you must wear your curtains.

How you measure this depends on whether your curtain rail is on the ceiling or
on the wall.

Curtain rail in the ceiling

Measure from ceiling to floor in several different places in the room as there are usually level differences in the room.

The shortest measurement is the one you should start from. If you want the curtains to flow out a little on the floor, these are the exact measurements you specify for the wave curtain. For pleated curtain, add 2 cm to the measurement. If you want the curtains to float above the floor, deduct 4 cm from the measurement for wave curtains and 2 cm from the measurement for pleated curtains.

Curtain rail on wall

If you have the curtain rail installed on the wall, you should instead measure from the top of the curtain rail
down to the floor. Here, too, it is good to measure in several different places in the room and start from that
shortest measurement.

If you want the curtain to flow a bit onto the floor, please specify the exact measurement in your order for wave curtains.

For pleated curtain, add 2 cm.

If you want the curtain to float a bit above the floor, deduct 4 cm from the measurement for wave curtains and 2 cm for pleated curtains.
